Follow the Rhinos

Coinciding with bad metaphor month, Follow the Rhinos stampeded to the head of the pack with an almost unanimous vote of confidence. I think those sad looking creatures might have won sympathy votes, but there's no doubt that the site is finely crafted. Its beige tones match those of its charges, while the photos and graphics counterpoint the palette -- enlivening what could otherwise have been a dreary site.

This month we'd also like to welcome Andy Clarke from Stuff and Nonsense as a new judge. I'm sure he'll find plenty of Standardised goodies to award.

“I just love the design of this site. Great icons, slick typography and excellent photographs. Go team Rhino!”

Andy Budd

“Completely awesome site! An endangered species site that maximizes and adds to the credibility of the cause by using standards. Natural ecology meets web ecology. FAB!”

Carole Guevin

“Because it is a simply beautiful site. Great use of a pared down color palette. Great use of graphics. Nice white space.”

Makiko Itoh

“I love this site. It's simple, clean, yet conveys a sense of depth with it's content, color and illustration.
The design is very well suited to the content and they've done a great job of merging a stylized, visually pleasing design with a simple, easy to use structure.”

D. Keith Robinson

Original review:

This site is simply gorgeous with a warm and muted palette that I hope never goes out of fashion. The design is simple and clear without feeling boring since a lot of work has been put into the graphical details like borders and icons.

Rhino Internet has developed Follow the Rhinos, and before you start wondering if that is a coincidence, check out the way they're including different style sheets for different browsers by using css hacks.

This is one of the best presented XHTML & CSS sites I've come across, the graphics are fantastic. This deserves an award for sure!

I think the graphics are awsome, but the code might be better. It could use more headlines and less divisions.

A deserved Award.

Wait, are you telling me this site beat out Chevrolet.com? On what planet? This design's good and all (regardless of poor link texts) but Chevrolet.com deserves the award imo.

Awesome site! The only thing that bugs me is that timeline. It makes me 'click and drag'...

That is an awesome site, I especially like the little note tacked up at the top.

I agree with Jerome... code is quite messy and could be lot more clean and semantic with a lot of less class attributes

...however graphically is FANTASTIC!! I LOVE IT
