..and now for something completely different.
Gedimo is a beautiful and open site that has a very original and unusual layout. It does use valid code and a healthy separation of content and style, but, in a wider sense, you could argue that it doesn't follow "the spirit" of web standards. However, by focusing on the refreshing uniqueness alone, Gedimo scores high.

That said, these are some of the problems:
Lack of accessibility, JavaScript required to use links, overlapping content on 800x600 that makes some links unclickable, popup windows show scrollbars in FireFox, mouseover effects not visible in some browsers.
Perhaps a version 6 can rectify these problems?

I see more problems with this site than I do anything positive.

At first glance, the bottom green line and grass is refreshing but once I focused on trying to find content the honeymoon was over.

This site is a far cry from user friendly and ends up being more of a nuisance than anything positive.

Wow. Different? You can say that again.
AT first glance this looks like a Flash site. Especially with the blinking links.

I like the layout, the grass, and the navigation, but the content design is not good. White text on an orange background, with little breaks in between? I'd prefer a greyish-green background that doesn't break. (One div, not a million spans)

I'm with Paolo. This is idiosyncratic to a fault. It's more outré than outside the box.

But I applaud the effort.

Below average marks for usability and content display.

However, top marks for design and uniqueness.

I have to agree, great concept, really stunning when browsing full screen on a 21" at 1600 by 1200 with Firefox 0.9.

Content and usability are so what.

What really intrigued me was what could be done with this concept, a few transparent pngs and a little javascript.

Doesn't work in ie 5.2 on the mac, shows up just as text links. But its fine in Safari, etc. Just so you know.

Very nice site. I guess it creates a dilemma, because there's nothing standard about it. And that's the very reason why it stands out. Standardized code is one thing, but standardized layouts are making the web slightly boring, very useful, but boring.
It's good to see people are still trying new things.

No disrespect to the site developer whatsoever but I normally come along to web standards awards to see something a little lighter on the JavaScript. Great website, wrong award (maybe)

Design-wise, I like the concept. The colors go well together. The navigation is appealing. Nice use of whitespace, also.

Two things bother me: the orange rollover state and the fact that the content is crammed into the little 150-200px section (guess). It is also a bit too hard to read given the font face, size, and color. Maybe it'd be better if the content background was a little less distracting, or if the content was moved elsewhere.

It's original and nice for the portfolio site appeal.

I dont like this site at all. None of the popup windows has anything to do with webstandards, the blinking navigation with images is not funny, as it should be?

I like green.
