As the Standards gospel spreads, we see more and more people pushing the boundaries of both CSS design and visual design in general. But it's still difficult to find sites that we can laud here at the Web Standards Awards. Why? Because although people are increasingly using CSS, a lot of them still ignore the spirit of Standards with poor code, poor structure and poor accessibility.

That's what makes Monc's site all the more special -- tight and clean code that is perfectly decorated in their own understated and beautiful style. An assured win for the Swedish team this September.

“This latest incarnation of the always impressive monc is just first class. Its simple and clean presentation emits an air of quality and professionalism whilst remaining elegant at all times.”

Robert Ford

“A beautifully clean design and calming palette.”

Makiko Itoh

“It was really hard this month, all the entries are great and choosing one was a challenge. I'm going to go with Monc as I love the simplicity of the design and how it really supports the content and interface”

D. Keith Robinson

Original review:

Monc has been championing the cause of Standards-compliant design for a while now, as you'll see if you look through the latest iteration of their own portfolio. The new showcase is elegantly restrained -- focussing more on subtle flourishes and typography -- which allows their work to be the true centre of attention here.

I think the width of the pages may have affected this, but the deeper project-related pages lose a little of the navigational logicality that their parents have. Otherwise, the code is tight and it's nice on the eyes, so props to these Swedish Standardators.

This is a very beautiful design. My only complaint is that the homepage could be used more effectively. Other than that, its great. Lovely subtleties.

Pocket sized-design. Gradients. Glows. It's beautiful and simple to navigate. Monc's designs has that classic-contemporary feel to it.

A lot of people don't like the homepage, but I think it's perfect for this site. Monc's potential clients probably appreciate it, too. The homepage immediately sets the stage, and it provides a simple interface to choose a destination (instead of overwhelming the viewer with blog posts and other long-windedness).

Minimalistic. The links are easily differentiate by normal or bold, so simple design yet very attarctive. Such an inspiration.

It's the subtleties that make this such a great site. For example, the slight chevron shift on the rollovers for the sub nav is gorgeous. Also, the tiny glow around the logo and the top border really make this a great place to visit.
