Sometimes a Web site isn't just about how good it looks. Sometimes it's about tying together an enormous amount of information into a useful, browseable site that you go back to everyday.
As a newspaper, the site for Northern Ireland's News Letter wouldn't be one of the most glamourous design jobs you'll ever receive, but the use of Standards to unify a large and ever-changing amount of information with a clean, quick, usable interface merits the award of this site as a good example of the applicability of Standards.
: The News Letter, now in its fourth century of continuous publication, has come a long way since it first saw the light of day in 1737....
Well selected and awarded.. the paper deserves an award based on its longevity alone. :)

For some reason, the right hand bar, with the Poll in it, does not display correctly in Safari. It is below all the other content.

It's called Weblog, and it is not such a great or new thing.

Like Danny I found a slight problem with the right column displaying on MAC IE 5.0. Still a nice site though, well worth an award. Lets hope other news related sites such as the BBC and Ananova raise their standards soon ...

See, I am not the only one with problems... now who else has a burning sensation?
I think this is great that this is XHTML STRICT, but it just doesn't WOW me as other web sites here (such as Jason's or Hick's).

Northern Ireland?
I think you should say north of Ireland.
