WSA Winner

Rammstein's performances are nothing if not dramatic, and in suitable fashion their web site made a lasting impression upon our judges.
Its finely wrought grunge and unusual interface won them over, though it only just managed to outpace the technical perfection of Subtraction and Etnies' inviting streetwear shopping. That the site was built for the music industry -- a sector notoriously overladen with Flash glory houses -- was also a point well noted.
Congratulations to bit_design on the first gold star of 2005!
“Ok I HATE this band's music, but this site is great. Great colors, funky well-thought-out layout, and the resizing trick is very neat. And unlike most music/band sites, it's not just yet another Flash site!
Yay!
Hooray for German (and um, German-speaking-area) designers!”
Makiko Itoh
“The warn edges and bright colours make this a very striking site. It also uses an interesting layout concept with fixed and scrolling elements.
Strangely enough, there is no site title within the code. On a text browser or screen reader, the first item on the page is the navigation list, then a shop link. The first major heading on the page is 'News'.”

Original review:
The official site for German band Rammstein is a refreshing take on web standards that doesn't avoid the larger-than-life attitude that the goth/metal/industrial band is known for. The backdrop for the site is a modified and fixed version of the album cover of latest offering "Reise, Reise", while the biggest surprise, bar none, happens when you resize your screen to a width below 830 pixels. OMG! Rammstein!
I must admit That was the last thing I expected to see on WSA! Bravo heavy metal!
The only thing left to win over is the adult content community...
Wait a minute...

Well well, my favourite band's site now follows standards! Who'd expect that... It's a very good thing to see more and more sites following web standards. Bravo to bit_design Berlin for creating such a great site.

@ Ryan: Hot Buns did prove an interesting talking point among the WSA judges a while back. ;)

I'm suppose that that site was "well examined"?
;)
Anyway, one thing keeps thowing me about the Rammstein site. The scroll bar. The way it scrolls the content within the metal viewport. It looks better than having a one in the middle of the screen interrupting the whole appeal. But, it still messes with my head.

Cool site and it is nice to see that even the heavy metal bands are leaning towards standards base design. Keep up the good work.
