web.burza
Well, it looks like the superhero edition of web.burza has managed to slice, claw and bat-a-rang its way through the competition to take out May's site of the month.
The time taken to convert this site's unique design from Flash into Standards-compliant HTML has reaped its rewards, providing a slick and well-executed interface on top of rock solid code -- exactly what the Web Standards Awards are about.
“One of those rare sites that has the lot... style, substance, innovation and personality.”
“It's just too cute. It incorporates Flash elements smoothly into a structurally sound page, something I think is somehow always impressive.”
Original review:
This one's been out for a little bit, but it just has to have an award for being so original. Although there's a lot of Flash going on (if you have it installed) the site degrades beautifully without it, and you don't really lose much of the effect.
The design itself is a visual wonder -- lush cartoony goodness with unique personality. However, the interface is a bit full on if you actually want to use it, and the content appears to play second fiddle. As an exercise in establishing brand, though? It's a bang up job.
